New Rules

Emphasizing the no rule aspect of street art

One of the most hybrid forms of artistic expression in our modern world is street art. It is about transgression, breaking rules and slipping away from the conventional. Trapping it within boundaries disrupts the notion of time and space. This project focuses on a fictional festival event that showcases the no rule aspect of street art. Throughout my poster, promotional booklet, and animation, I played with vibrant imagery, created my own typographic conventions (and broke them) as well as focused on black and white inversion.

Process Glimpse: Playing with typography and distorting its rules.

Direction One

The first direction focuses on collaged letter forms and layered elements that enhance the no rule aspect of street art. This breaks the rules of typography when capital & lowercase letters are juxtaposed. Things are overlapped and the grid structure is challenged through skewed typography.

Direction Two

The second direction looks at positive and negative space as well as black and white text inversion. I played with legibility thus breaking rules that way.
